Light the Night Walk 2012

As many of you may know, last Thursday was the Light the Walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  We started a team in support of Charlie’s journey with ALL and to help raise money for LLS since they are supporting a lot of great research for blood disorders.  It was an interesting experience for both angela and I, we have never undertaken any type of fund raising activities.  It was definitely outside of our comfort zone.  So, a big “Thank You” to all of you that donated.  Another big “Thank You” to all of you that joined Charlie’s Cancer Crusher team.  Whether or not you were able to walk with us, your support for Charlie is invaluable.

After arriving at the park and checking-in, the festivities started off with music and food, of course.  Everybody had to fuel up for the two mile walk around Washington Park.  The Primrose contingent of Charlie’s Cancer Crushers team surprised us with team shirts, which featured Charlie’s picture and team name.  That was very special and we thank them for going above and beyond to make the event that much more special.  Both Charlie and Daniel had a great time playing and eating with some of their favorite people.  As dinner was winding down, Charlie got a surprise as Mr. Jason and Mrs. Dallas (his Make-A-Wish granters) showed up to walk with us.  Charlie was super happy to have them along, so a big thank you to them for taking an evening to show their support for Charlie.

Not long after that, the walk began and any doubts I had that Charlie might be too tired or that Daniel might be too grumpy, quickly dissipated.  They were both really excited and had the time of their lives, bouncing around from team member to team member, playing and laughing (and in Daniel’s case, getting carried).  Charlie nearly completed the entire 2 mile circuit without riding in the stroller, and in actuality, he probably walked further than 2 miles all total.  He spent most of the walk running back a forth between team members.  The evening ended way past the kids bed time, but they were too excited to let it show.  That is, until the stroller ride back to the car.  Charlie quickly pooped out, but Daniel got carried so much he still had a lot of energy and was pretty chatty on the car ride home.

Despite our concerns heading into it, the walk was a very uplifting experience.  Angela and I felt great about the amount of money Charlie’s team helped raise for LLS (over $6,000).  Meanwhile, the boys and everybody on Charlie’s Cancer Crushers team had a fantastic time at the event.  Charlie has a great support structure around him.  For those of you that belong to that network, we can’t thank you enough for your donations of time, energy and money.  You have our sincerest appreciation.
